Mindmore is proud to present a digital and paper version of the MMSE-NR3
For some time now, MMSE-SR has no longer been available for download from the Dementia Center's website. We are therefore proud to present an alternate version. Our new version has been reviewed by the original authors of MMSE-SR and as such provides an accurate alternative.
You can now watch the launch event below, a demo of the digital version and an overview of the legal and regulatory framework for the MMSE-NR3 Swedish version.

What is MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version)?
MMSE-NR3 was developed in 2016 by Carsten Strobel and Knut Engedal and updated in 2021. In an article from 2023, norms have been developed for the paper version of NR3 and can be found here.
The Swedish version of MMSE-NR3 is a Swedish translation of MMSE-NR3, which was developed by Knut Engedahl and Carsten Strobel in 2021. Carsten Strobel is also one of the creators of MMSE-SR, the version of MMSE which has been used in Sweden for a long time.
A diagnosis cannot be made with the results from MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version) alone. For example, there is no information which measures executive function in a satisfactory way. The results should rather be seen as a snapshot of the patient's cognitive function and can provide an indication for further assessment.
According to the recommendations of the National Board of Health and Welfare, healthcare should offer MMSE and the clock test as part of the basic dementia investigation.

Advantages of digital MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version)
Development of digital version: a clinician-led digital testing
The digital version of MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version) has been developed by Mindmore together with Licensed Psychologist Beata Terzis and has also been reviewed by Doctor Anders Wallin and Licensed Psychologist Carsten Strobel, of whom all three were involved in developing the Swedish version MMSE-SR 2012.
The digital version has also been tested by several experienced users to ensure good consistency with the original version regarding administration and correction.
Please note that the digital version is not self-administered like Mindmore's other tests, but is administered by clinicians.
Differences between the digital and paper versions
The digital version is administered in the same way as the paper version in that the test administrator asks all the questions and records the answers.
The tasks that require paper and pencil are: comprehension, writing ability and figure copying (17, 19, 20). This is because these tasks cannot be done digitally in a satisfactory manner.
No separate validation or norm collection has been carried out on the digital version, which should be taken into account when interpreting the results. However, when using physical stimulus sheets, the administration is identical between the analog and digital versions.
Paper version
Do you want to download the paper version?
Due to instrument confidentiality we have to verify that you work within healthcare before allowing you to access it. As such you will be required to answer a few short questions in order to download the paperversion and user manual.
Frequently asked questions and answers
What is the difference between MMSE-NR3 and MMSE-SR?
The differences between MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version) and MMSE-SR (SR) are relatively small, but large enough to be legally considered two separate tests, with MMSE-NR3 standing completely independent from MMSE-SR. The few changes that have been made were done to align with MMSE-NR3. These include: new images, a clearer distraction task, and a new instruction. As a new version was created, it also provided an opportunity to refine and improve certain formulations. All changes have been discussed with the original authors of MMSE-SR. Examples of these include clarifications of wording and simplifications of the scoring procedure.
What should I do when I register to SveDem?
In SveDem, you record the number of points the patient received on the MMSE-NR3 (Swedish version). The registration is not affected by which version is used.
